This was the second visit to Motalava for her, the first time was a one month visit in 1995 where she first fell in love with Vanuatu and Kastom life.Known in the native language as Mwotlap; it is a small, remote, rural island in the northern Banks Islands group in Vanuatu that is strong in Kastom belief and Kristianity. As one of the six recipients of the Kommonwealth Konnections International Artist in Residence she used the opportunity to go to the place where her family Womal descend from to reKonnekt with family and to learn her family heritage. All these islands are in the nation of Vanuatu. "You can look straight across the water from Womal ground in Neringnuman Village, Mwotlap to Lorull(her family lineage also) ground at Quissee, Vanua Lava." "Theres a south sea islander mural in Bowen, North Kweensland, in the IGA supermarket kar park of family Womal and family Yasso and in this mural is a bay where the blakbirders tall ships kame in and akross this bay you see a bigger island with a volKano in the distance. This here now is the actual view from Womal ground akross to Lorull ground. I have seen it and it was konfirmed when I showed the picture of this mural around in Mwotlap, straight away people told me exaktly where that place is." ~ KrISHNA Nahow
